Airbus Helicopters – service improvement story (spare parts and operational readiness)

This is a pretty standard service support improvement story (mainly spare parts) -in this case of Airbus Helicopters. I am posting it because it includes some hard benchmark data, which are not always available, but which tend to become public in aerospace and defense because of public procurement issues. Nevertheless it does show i) how important operational readiness is for the military, ii) penny pinching, in terms of reducing parts stock levels (to improve profitability) usually backfires and is felt as penalties or contract losses and iii) how important analytics is to a vendor in order to be able to reduce inventories without affecting operational readiness and iv) that service support is extremely important in this industry
